Saint of the Day, Yah, you betcha!

“There is no sinner in the world, however much at enmity with God, who cannot recover God’s grace by recourse to Mary, and by asking her assistance.” –St. Bridget of Sweden (Feast day: July 23)
So, recourse to Mary. What’s that about? Have you ever been asked why Catholics worship Mary? Well, the short answer is that we don’t worship her, though we do give her honor, exactly as Jesus honors His own Mother. Marian devotion is sometimes seen as something “optional”, something for old-timey Catholics or the super-pious. Well, actually, love of Mary being optional is like saying that the Annunciation of Christ’s Coming to Mary by the angel Gabriel (and her all important “yes”) is optional to Salvation History. All the saints thought knowing our Blessed Mother Mary was important, even essential, and that’s because Jesus thought so. No matter how much we love Mary, we could always grow in knowledge and devotion. So, pray a Hail Mary, and ask our Lord through Mary to teach you about the Queen of Saints!
